OUTDOOR AIR CONDITIONING UNITS

Floor-standing split systems have separate blocks – external and internal. The indoor unit is installed in the lower part of the room’s walls. A significant advantage is the low operating noise and compact size (up to 70 cm wide, 60 cm in height). Modern systems equipped with inverter technology include built-in air purification filters.

These systems operate in different modes – from air cooling to ventilation, heating, and dehumidifying. Floor-standing systems are cost-effective and have wide applications. To properly install an air conditioning unit, you need to understand how it operates. It’s a mistake to think installation requirements can be ignored. Understanding different floor air conditioning types is important, but most crucial is compliance with safety regulations. Following these priority recommendations helps avoid accidents.

Basic conditions for correct and safe installation are as follows:

• The device should only be connected to a grounded outlet.
• Never use extension cords or adapters with air conditioners (risk of fire and short-circuit).
• Never turn on the device if the grille or front panel has been removed – operating a disassembled air conditioner is dangerous.
• Never ground the device through gas pipes.
• To prevent electrical hazards, ensure proper grounding wire installation and circuit protection.
• After installation, keep the air conditioner outlet and plug physically accessible for emergencies.
• Floor-standing systems should not be installed in bathrooms.
• Maintain at least half a meter clearance around the unit to ensure proper airflow.

Installation can be done in two ways. The first method involves routing the exhaust hose (for warm air) through a window or vent to the outside. The second option routes air through a doorway.

The setup process follows this sequence: Insert the drain hose into the flexible duct, then connect it to the exhaust port. Place the other end of the duct outside (through a door or window). Note that before the first use, the device should remain upright in its operating position for at least two hours.

INSTALLING THE OUTDOOR UNIT

How to install the outdoor air conditioning unit? Depending on the building structure, the outdoor unit can be placed outside the window, on straps, brackets, or bolted with anchors. The outdoor unit can also be installed on a balcony or terrace.

During installation, follow this sequence of operations:

• Start with the indoor unit (often equipped with wheels for easy movement). Ensure there is adequate space for air circulation and access to the control panel.
• Next, install the outdoor unit. The optimal position is where nothing obstructs heat dissipation. The best locations are balcony perimeters or open exterior areas. Maintain a minimum distance of 5 cm between the unit and any wall. Mounting brackets are typically supplied with the unit.
• For portable units, installation is simplified – just ensure the device is stable and wheels are locked if applicable.

Many wonder if professional installation is necessary. While expert installation ensures optimal results, the costs can be significant. Self-installation can reduce expenses considerably. Additionally, by learning the installation process, owners better understand the system’s operation, leading to better maintenance and more effective use.

FANS – AN ALTERNATIVE TO AIR CONDITIONING?

As an alternative to split-system air conditioners, outdoor fans with humidifiers are sometimes used. These units allow humidity level adjustment via remote control with different operating modes. Fans primarily provide cooling through air circulation. Various types are available: floor-mounted, table-top, with or without humidification, and with adjustable height and tilt.

Some fans include aromatherapy channels for fragrance liquids. Combined with moisture, these can create a pleasant atmosphere in offices or living spaces. Floor fans typically operate continuously for about 10 hours and cover areas of 20-30 square meters. Models with integrated ionizers are also available. Note: for humidification features, water must be added and maintained at proper levels. Fans can be programmed with timers for automatic operation.

Overall, wall and ceiling-mounted split systems remain the most reliable option for climate control. While they may have higher costs and require professional installation, the installation process is manageable, and the investment is justified by the system’s comprehensive capabilities.
